Railway Minister Zillul Hakim has said train services across the country will remain suspended until the situation fully normalises.
The minister made this statement during a conversation with journalists on Thursday (25 July).
The suspension of passenger train services in the wake of nationwide quota reform protests has resulted in a loss of around Tk22.03 crore, said the railway minister.
He also added that refunds will be issued for the tickets sold, amounting to more than Tk16.35 crore.
The Railway Minister returned to the country last Tuesday (23 July 23) after visits to Vietnam and Japan. Regarding foreign investment in the railway sector, he said the violence related to the quota reform movement could impact foreign investment in rail communications.
Meanwhile, Anwar Hossain, the station master at Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station, stated that although some short-distance trains were scheduled to resume operations on Thursday, the Bangladesh Railway authorities have retracted that decision. All types of train services, including intercity trains, will remain suspended until further notice.
