The inaugural 'Embassy Cricket Carnival-2024' commenced on 7 June at the Bashundhara Sporting Complex.

Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in association with Gameplay Ltd., the two-day event was inaugurated by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen, who served as the Chief Guest. Officials from various resident missions in Dhaka were also present, reads a press release.

The tournament features 16 teams from international organizations and foreign embassies and high commissions competing in a friendly cricket competition.

This event aims to foster camaraderie and strengthen relationships between the diplomatic community and international organizations in Bangladesh, coinciding with the T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and the USA.

Foreign Secretary Momen expressed the ministry's support for sporting initiatives and praised Gameplay Ltd. for organizing such events.

He noted that the cricket carnival follows four successful seasons of the 'Embassy Football Fest' organized by the Foreign Ministry.

The opening ceremony was followed by group stage matches, leading to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the grand finale on the second day.

Team MoFA won all three group matches and advanced to the quarter-finals as group champions.

The Embassy Cricket Carnival is expected to generate enthusiasm for cricket and promote cultural exchange and sportsmanship within the diplomatic community and beyond.
