New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak on 29 May 1953.

Their historic ascent was part of a British expedition led by Colonel John Hunt.

Battling extreme altitudes, frigid temperatures, and treacherous climbing conditions, Hillary and Norgay's successful climb not only marked a monumental moment in the history of mountaineering but also symbolised human endurance and the spirit of exploration.
