Despite the catastrophic effects of Cyclone Remal, wildlife poaching continued unabated.
The Forest Department’s Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) rescued one Chinese pangolin and a mother Capped langur with her baby, which were illegally encased, from Wari of Dhaka.
Wildlife inspector Ashim Mallick told Bangladesh First that a team from WCCU, acting on a tip-off, raided a warehouse at Dholaikhal and rescued a Chinese pangolin—an IUCN-listed critically endangered mammal—and two Capped langurs, which are IUCN-listed vulnerable primates.
The individuals illegally possessing the animals for poaching managed to escape during the raid.
"However, the process of filing a case against the poaching incident is underway. We are currently gathering information about the poachers," Ashim said.
