A long expected ferry service is set to link the southeastern Chattogram with offshore island of Sandwip from tomorrow with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad expecting to open the service under the auspices of shipping ministry.
According to a shipping ministry statement, the service will actually link Sitakunda on the outskirts of the port city with Sandwip Island having four stops, three in Sandwip’s Banshbaria, central Sitakunda and Guptochhara.
The distance between the two upazilas is about 35 kilometers.
It said the chief adviser would open the service by joining the ceremony through a virtual platform from Dhaka.
Shipping adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain is expected to inaugurate the ferry service.
The ceremony will be joined as well by adviser for energy and road transport ministries Muhammad Fawjul Kabir Khan, adviser for environment and water resources ministries Syewda Rizwana Hassan local government and sports adviser Asif Mahmud, liberation war affairs adviser Faruq-e-Azam, among others.
