Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has stated that Saudi Arabia has not suspended Umrah visas for Bangladeshi nationals.

Speaking at a press briefing at the secretariat on Tuesday (18 March), he cited confirmation from the Saudi envoy to Bangladesh.

Regarding the concerns of those who purchased tickets but could not travel, the advisor assured that Biman Bangladesh Airlines would provide refunds as per regulations.

Meanwhile, Saudi Airlines has informed that pilgrims unable to obtain visas for Ramadan can undertake their Umrah journey in July instead.

Dismissing allegations of visa irregularities, Khalid Hossain clarified that the Saudi Embassy is merely regulating the influx of Umrah pilgrims due to an overwhelming number of applicants this year.

When asked about US National Security Chief Tulsi Gabbard’s remarks on alleged minority persecution in Bangladesh, the adviser refuted the claims, stating that while isolated incidents have occurred, the government is taking strict action against them.
