Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres have arrived in Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya refugee camps and assess ongoing development projects in the region.
Their arrival was confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s press wing, which stated that Yunus reached Cox’s Bazar at 1pm on Friday (14 March) aboard a Bangladesh Biman Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
At the airport, they were received by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salauddin and Superintendent of Police.
During his visit, Yunus will inspect the under-construction Cox’s Bazar International Airport and the Khurushkul Climate Refugee Centre.
Following this, he will proceed to Ukhiya, where he will join Guterres and approximately one lakh Rohingya refugees for iftar.
Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General is heading directly from the airport to Ukhiya. His itinerary includes visits to the Rohingya Learning Centre, the Rohingya Cultural Centre, and a jute product manufacturing facility established for the refugees.
After completing their scheduled inspections and iftar, Yunus and Guterres are expected to return to Dhaka together in the evening.
