Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasised the importance of fostering intellectual development among children, advocating against undue pressure in the pursuit of education.
Speaking on the occasion of the 104th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day in Tungipara on Sunday (17 March), she highlighted the government's efforts to shape the curriculum in a manner conducive to intellectual growth.
"We are designing the curriculum in a manner that allows children the opportunity to develop intellectually, without subjecting them to unnecessary academic pressure," said the Prime Minister.
She said, "It is imperative to prioritise the development of intellectual capacity rather than focusing solely on academic achievements. We are emphasising technical education to nurture the children of today as the architects of a brighter future for Bengal."
Expressing concern over global humanitarian crises, Sheikh Hasina questioned the silence of international human rights organisations in the face of atrocities such as the attacks in Gaza. She underscored Bangladesh's unwavering support for oppressed populations worldwide.
Highlighting the government's commitment to children's development, the Prime Minister said the government has introduced technology education from an early age.
She said the literacy rate has significantly increased from 45% to 76.8%.
Encouraging children to be well-versed in key historical events, Sheikh Hasina urged them to learn about the language movement, the the Liberation War, and National Day, underscoring the importance of preserving national heritage and identity through education.
