The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has reported the discovery of bone fragments at the partially-demolished residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, located at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.
A forensic team from the CID’s crime scene unit commenced evidence collection at approximately 7:45am Monday (10 February), under the supervision of Dhanmondi police.
“A CID crime scene team visited Dhanmondi 32 this morning and discovered some bones. These will be subjected to forensic examination to ascertain their origin,” A CID spokesperson told media.
Law enforcement authorities have yet to confirm whether the bones are of human origin, pending the results of forensic testing.
The residence was partially demolished last Wednesday (5 February), during a "Bulldozer Procession" commemorating six months since the ousting and subsequent exile of Sheikh Hasina.
The following day, a feast was held at the site, during which cattle were slaughtered and prepared.
Since the demolition, individuals have been observed salvaging materials from the rubble, including iron rods and electrical wiring, with some even carting away bricks.
The demolition campaign has not been confined to Dhaka.
Beginning on the night of 5 February, statues and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, alongside various establishments bearing their names, have been vandalised across multiple districts.
In addition, residences of Awami League leaders have been set ablaze, and party offices torched in several regions.
