A robbery attempt on the Kachua-Gauripur regional road in Chandpur was foiled when a member of the gang, identified as Mohsin, 38, was killed after being run over by a cargo-laden pickup early on Friday (7 February) morning.
The incident occurred in the Shimultali area as a Dhaka-bound pickup, transporting auto parts to Kachua, encountered an ambush set by a gang of 10 to 12 armed robbers who had blocked the road with felled trees.
In an attempt to attack the driver, Lokman Hossain, with locally made weapons, the vehicle lost control, collided with a tree trunk, and overturned—crushing Mohsin under its weight.
Mohsin, hailing from Raghunathpur village under Titas Police Station in Cumilla, died on the spot.
Driver Lokman Hossain sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kachua Upazila Health Complex.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the gang members fled the scene before patrol units from Kachua Police Station arrived.
Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the attempted robbery, confirmed Officer-in-Charge M Abdul Halim.
The deceased’s body has been recovered and sent to the Chandpur morgue for post-mortem examination.
