Monir Haidar, a journalist with nearly three decades of experience, has been appointed as special assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Ministry of Public Administration issued a formal notification on Wednesday (5 February), confirming his appointment with the status equivalent to that of a senior secretary.
In his new role, Haidar will act on behalf of the chief adviser, liaising with various political parties and forces to foster national consensus, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Currently based in New York, Haidar is expected to assume his new responsibilities upon his return to Bangladesh.
Over the course of his extensive journalistic career, he has contributed to several prominent newspapers, including Dainik Purbokone, Bhorer Kagoj, Janakantha, Jaijaidin, Ittefaq, and Manabzamin.
He also serves as an adviser to the private television channel, Banglavision.
