Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has expressed his perplexity over the continued protests by railway employees, asserting that all feasible demands have been addressed.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday (28 January) after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement at the secretariat, he stated that the administration has undertaken all necessary measures for railway employees on humanitarian grounds, including resolving issues related to overtime payments.

However, he noted that fulfilling demands beyond these is not financially viable, urging consideration of the country’s economic condition.

He further clarified that no decision has yet been made regarding the provision of dearness allowance for government officials and employees.

While allowances for foreign missions have been increased, this was based on a prior decision made long ago.

Additionally, to prevent shortages during Ramadan, he assured that adequate stockpiles of rice and wheat would be maintained.
