The police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Ansar forces have been issued new uniforms, set to be implemented shortly.

"A change in uniform is expected to bring a shift in the mentality of the force members," said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury following a meeting of the advisory council on law and order at the secretariat on Monday (20 January).

He further stated that following a government-issued alert regarding the presence of illegal foreign nationals, many have departed.

The official data previously indicated 49,226 illegal foreigners residing in Bangladesh, a figure that has now reduced to 31,648.

The government will initiate action against individuals or institutions aiding these unauthorised residents post-31 January.

Additionally, the adviser revealed that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been authorised to procure sound grenades and tear shells, deemed non-lethal, for use when necessary.

These items will be acquired promptly to enhance border security.

Moreover, an internal committee, led by the secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been established to review the four border-related agreements made with India by the previous government for any inconsistencies.
