A seven-member investigation commission has been formed to examine the 25-26 February 2009 Pilkhana massacre, said to Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Speaking on Monday (23 December), during a medal distribution ceremony at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, marking BGB Day, he disclosed the details of the initiative.

He announced that the chief adviser signed the formation order on Sunday (22 December), finalising the commission tasked with probing the tragic incident.

In addressing other national matters, the adviser stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to take necessary steps to liaise with India to facilitate the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

He clarified that her return would be pursued under the prisoner repatriation agreement.

The adviser also reaffirmed the government's firm stance on preventing the illegal entry of Rohingyas at the border.

"There has been no change in our policy; under no circumstances will we allow Rohingyas to cross the border. Only those in critical health conditions are being granted refuge on humanitarian grounds," he said.

Referring to a recent statement by the foreign affairs adviser regarding the entry of 60,000 Rohingyas in two months, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury attributed it to a slip of the tongue.

He clarified, "The figure pertains to a period of one-and-a-half to two years, not two months."

On a separate note, he assured that the individuals responsible for harassing freedom fighters in Cumilla would face legal consequences.

"Those who are involved in such acts of harassment will undoubtedly be brought under the ambit of the law," he stated firmly.

The announcements come amidst a critical period of political and social challenges, underscoring the government’s efforts to address pressing issues while upholding national policies and justice.
