West Bengal Police have confirmed through DNA testing that the flesh and bones recovered from the septic tank of Kolkata's Sanjiba Garden belong to former Jhenaidah lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.
According to a Hindustan Times report citing Kolkata CID, forensic analysis matched the DNA of the recovered remains with samples provided by Anar’s daughter, Mumtahreen Ferdous Doreen.
It has been revealed that Doreen visited Kolkata in late November, during which her DNA sample was collected. Both the remains and her sample were then sent for verification.
Approximately four kilograms of flesh were recovered from the septic tank of the Sanjiba Garden housing complex where the former MP was allegedly murdered.
Additionally, several human bones were retrieved from the Bagjola Canal in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas district.
The collected remains were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination.
While the dismembered remains required DNA confirmation to ascertain their identity, delays occurred as Doreen’s visit to Kolkata, initially planned much earlier, was postponed several times.
She finally arrived in November and met CID officials, providing her DNA sample.
Anar, a former Bangladeshi MP, arrived in India on 12 May and stayed at the Baranagar residence of his acquaintance, Gopal Biswas.
The next day, 13 May, Anar reportedly left Gopal’s house for a medical appointment.
However, the same night, he was allegedly murdered in duplex flat BEU-56 of Sanjiba Garden in New Town, Kolkata.
The case has attracted widespread attention, with investigations ongoing to unravel the full details of the crime.
