Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), will return to the country promptly once his legal matters are resolved, said the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He made this statement on Thursday (12 December), upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, following medical treatment in London.
Speaking to journalists at the airport, Mirza Fakhrul emphasised the need for patience among party leaders and activists.
He reiterated Tarique Rahman's resolve to return to Bangladesh as soon as possible once the legal barriers are addressed.
In response to a journalist’s query, Fakhrul criticised remarks from the government’s Information Adviser, who claimed that political parties were undermining the interim administration.
Fakhrul dismissed these comments as "anti-political" and clarified that all political factions had extended cooperation to the current caretaker government.
Dispelling misconceptions, Fakhrul stated that the BNP is prioritising elections over internal reforms, countering the narrative that the party is neglecting electoral preparedness.
Earlier this month, Fakhrul had travelled to London for medical treatment.
During his visit, he also held discussions with Tarique Rahman and participated in various events with leaders from different wings of the London BNP.
