The Indian High Commission commemorated the 53rd anniversary of “Maitri Diwas” with a vibrant musical evening on 6 December 2024 at the Indian Cultural Centre in Dhaka. The event marked the day in 1971 when India officially recognized Bangladesh as an independent, sovereign nation—ten days before the country achieved liberation.
In his address, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma hailed the occasion as a historic milestone and a beacon of inspiration for the enduring relationship between India and Bangladesh, reads a press release.
Highlighting the intertwined destinies of the two nations, he emphasized the mutual stakes in each other’s progress and prosperity. Describing people as the cornerstone of bilateral ties, he called upon the youth to play an active role as custodians of the future of India-Bangladesh relations. The High Commissioner expressed hope for further strengthening connections in connectivity, culture, and commerce to bolster the already robust partnership between the countries.
The event was attended by a large gathering, particularly students and youth of Bangladesh. Those who joined also included Heads of some Foreign Missions in Bangladesh, freedom fighters, members of civil society and eminent personalities from the fields of art and culture.
A cultural program added a lively dimension to the celebration, featuring performances by both emerging and established artists. The audience enjoyed an eclectic mix of traditional, folk, and contemporary music, creating an evening filled with youthful energy and artistic splendor.
