The interim government has appointed Senior Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division to lead the search committee formed to constitute a new Election Commission (EC). High Court Division Senior Justice A.K.M. Asaduzzaman has also been named as a committee member.

The names of the appointed members have been forwarded to the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs following approval from Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul announced the formation of the search committee, confirming that the gazette with the names of the members will be published within a day or two, pending final approval by Chief Adviser Dr. Mohammad Yunus.

"A search committee has been formed. As far as I know, the official announcement will come shortly after Dr. Yunus’s signature,” Dr. Nazrul stated to reporters after meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk at the secretariat today.

Once the search committee completes its task, the new Election Commission will be constituted, after which the voter list will be updated, Dr. Nazrul added.
