Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon continue with unabated force, resulting in the deaths of 53 individuals in Gaza and at least 21 in Lebanon over the past 24 hours, according to international news agency Al Jazeera on Monday (28 October).
The report states that, among the 53 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours, at least 46 fatalities occurred in northern Gaza, where occupying forces have been conducting intense operations for the past four weeks, leading to the death of approximately 1,000 Palestinians during this period.
Since Hamas’s unprecedented cross-border assault on 7 October last year, Israel has maintained an ongoing aerial and ground offensive across Gaza. The attacks have so far claimed 42,920 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, while nearly 100,000 individuals have sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Israeli assaults in Lebanon claimed an additional 21 lives. Since September of this year, Israeli actions have led to over 2,500 fatalities in Lebanon. Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon assert that they have killed 70 Israeli soldiers during this ongoing conflict.
On 27 September, Israel conducted an aerial strike that killed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Lebanon’s armed Hezbollah faction. In retaliation, Iran, a known supporter and arms supplier to Hezbollah, launched 200 ballistic missiles targeting Israel on 1 October.
Amid this volatile situation, on 16 October, Israeli forces killed Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas’s pro-independence faction in Palestine. Subsequently, on 18 October, Hezbollah launched a drone strike on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence, though no casualties were reported.
On 22 October, Israel reported the killing of Hashem Safiuddin, a potential successor to the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
