A murder case was filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Ministers Obaidul Quader, Hasan Mahmud, former MPs Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan and Samshul Alam Dudu, among a total of 217 accused, in connection with the shooting death of a 25-year-old youth during an anti-discrimination student protest in Joypurhat.
With this, Awami President Sheikh Hasina is facing the second lawsuit in the district.
Victim Mehedi Hasan’s wife Jesmin Akhtar Sristi filed the case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate in the district.
The court directed the Officer-in-Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station to register the case as an FIR, confirmed by the plaintiff's lawyer Abdul Momin Fakir.
According to the case statement, the incident occurred on 5 August during a protest against discrimination when Mehedi Hasan was shot in Joypurhat police station.
Hasan was the son of Altaf Hossain from the Sheikhpara neighborhood of New Haat in Joypurhat Sadar.
Fourteen days after the incident, Jesmin Akhtar Sristi took legal action by filing a murder case on Tuesday (20 August).
