Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Thursday that trained cadres of BNP-Jamaat are carrying out violent activities across the country under the guise of the quota reform movement.

“All educational institutions, including public universities, were announced closed yesterday. In the absence of students, the men of BNP-Jamaat have occupied the streets with their old form of arson violence,” said Quader at a press conference at the Dhanmondi Awami League office.

Quader said, “The Awami League and the government are monitoring the movement with patience. The law enforcement agencies have also taken a cautionary stand for the sake of maintaining security. However, a political force is creating unwanted terrorism and chaos. Due to their instigation, several people have lost their lives across the country.”

He said the terrorist group has carried out attacks on Chhatra League members across the country, leaving around 300 leaders and activists injured, with many in critical condition.

BCL female members, as well as police and journalists, also came under attack, he added.
