Following Thursday's rally, quota reform protesters have announced that they will not hold any programs Wednesday in observance of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

"We won’t hold any procession Wednesday due to Muharram. We will announce the next program after discussing with other coordinators," said Nahid Islam, a coordinator of the Anti-discriminatory Students Movement.

He also urged Dhaka University students to remain vigilant in their dormitories and take charge of the halls, defying the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Earlier Tuesday, protesting students gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4pm as part of their pre-scheduled program, responding to recent assaults allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members and demanding quota reforms.

They marched towards the VC Chattar of Dhaka University (DU), maintaining their position at the Shaheed Minar area until 8:00pm, after which they concluded Tuesday's programme.

Meanwhile, BCL members positioned themselves at the Raju Sculpture and TSC area starting from 2pm, visibly armed with sticks, iron rods, and helmets.

The presence of both protesting students and BCL leaders with such equipment has heightened tension across the campus.

At 7:00pm, approximately 500 police personnel, led by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Crime) Liton Kumar and Deputy Police Commissioner of Ramna Zone Md Ashraful Islam, deployed around the DU area.

However, at least six people including students were killed across the country as clashes erupted between quota reform protesters, the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and the police.
