Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed deep concerns regarding the deteriorating health of Bushra Bibi, the spouse of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. She is currently confined to the couple's Banigala residence, designated as a sub-jail after their conviction and sentencing in the Toshakhana case.
Bushra Bibi disclosed that she had been given a harmful substance resembling acid in her food, causing intense pain for the past five days, The Express Tribune reported citing Mashal Yousufzai, spokesperson for Bushra Bibi and a PTI lawyer.
Yousufzai detailed the severe effects on Bushra Bibi's health, which include a sensation of her stomach being on fire, severe sores in her mouth and throat, and difficulty in consuming anything except dry toast dipped in tea or water, as reported by The Express Tribune.
Yousufzai issued a stark warning, stating that there is a "serious threat" to Bushra Bibi's life and urgently called for a medical inspection.
In response to the distressing situation, PTI urged higher courts to intervene, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
Imran Khan and Bushra were sentenced to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference last month on charges related to retaining expensive jewelry. Two days later, they were given an additional seven-year sentence for contracting marriage during the 'Iddat' (period of waiting). While Imran remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail, the government converted the Banigala residence into a sub-jail for Bushra.
On February 6, Bushra approached the Islamabad High Court against the notification declaring her Banigala residence a sub-jail, seeking a transfer to Adiala Jail.
