Police have arrested four people, including the prime accused in the case filed over the incident where a 45-year-old woman was raped after her eyes and mouth were glued shut in Paikgacha, Khulna.
“The prime accused in the case, Imamul Joadder alias Enamul was arrested around 11pm last night from the eastern Kashimnagar area of Paikgachha upazila,” Additional Superintendent of Khulna Police Sushant Sarker said during a press briefing on Friday (16 February).
“In addition to Enamul, three others, including Enamul’s mother Rashida Begum along with Abdus Samad and Sumon Hawlader have been arrested in connection with the case,” he added.
According to the police, Enamul had gone to the garden adjacent to the victim's house to consume drugs on Sunday (11 February) evening.
“Upon noticing the woman alone in the house, he climbed onto the roof and entered the house through the stairs. Enamul then mixed an anesthetic with her food and left the premises. Later, around 2am, he re-entered the house in the same way and began searching for valuables. When the victim woke up, he applied glue to her eyes and mouth and raped her,” SP Sushant Sarker said.
“Sensing people from neighbouring houses, he [Enamul] fled the scene after stealing the victim’s earrings and mobile phone,” the police official added.
Enamul’s mother sold the stolen earrings at shop at Chuknagar Swarna Patti for Tk5,000, police said.
Neighbours rescued the victim and admitted her to Khulna Medical College and Hospital the following morning.
The victim’s husband filed a case with Paikgacha police station on Tuesday (13 February).
