The 16th Red Crescent Youth Chief Conference 2024, themed “Empowering Youth for a Better Tomorrow,” took place today at the national headquarters of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).

The conference aimed to foster young leadership among trained youth with competent human values, capable of playing a positive role in the state and society, reads a press release.

A total of 69 youth chiefs from 68 units of the society and the national headquarters participated in the event.

The Chairman of BDRCS, Professor Dr M. U. Kabir Chowdhury, presided over the conference as the chief guest.

At the same time, Abdullah Khaled Alsami, representative of the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Bangladesh, and Isa bin Yusuf Al Duhailan, head of the Embassy of Economic and Cultural Affairs, attended as a special guest.

In his address, Professor Chowdhury lauded the bravery and dedication of Red Crescent volunteers in humanitarian activities during disasters.

He said, “Visionary and skilled youth leadership is the main driving force of society, giving proper guidance to youth volunteers in conducting humanitarian activities. The youth are making us proud by working with honesty and devotion for the welfare of the country.” He urged youth leaders to commit to self-improvement and building strong leadership.

Special guest Abdullah Khaled conveyed congratulations from the Saudi ambassador to the Red Crescent volunteers.

The conference sessions highlighted the role of youth leadership in climate change and adaptation, youth and volunteer policies, and various aspects of youth development.

The goal was to enhance knowledge about humanitarian activities and promote sustainable climate change adaptation programs.

Participants set a target to incorporate 80% of educational institutions across the country into the Youth Red Crescent co-educational program.

Notable attendees included former BDRCS Chairman Hafiz Ahmed Majumdar, current Vice Chairman Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury Helal, members of the Managing Board, and Deputy Secretary of the Dhaka Education Board Khan Khalilur Rahman, who were special guests at the opening ceremony. Secretary General of BDRCS Kazi Shafiqul Azam, department directors, IFRC head of delegation Alberto Bocanegra, and various officials were also present. Special guests received mementoes following the inauguration.
