The severe cyclonic storm Remal has caused damage amounting to Tk6,880 crore in 20 districts, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman said on Sunday.

The state minister provided details on the impact of the cyclone at a press briefing held at the ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat. An inter-ministerial meeting was held today to assess the overall damage and coordinate necessary actions involving all government ministries.

Remal struck Bangladesh's coastal areas on May 26, causing significant tidal surges that submerged several areas. The disaster resulted in the loss of 16 lives and inflicted damage on numerous roads, embankments, homes, and community institutions.

Enamur said so far, relief efforts have included the distribution of Tk5.75 crore in cash, 5,500 tonnes of rice, 9,000 packets of dry food, 200 bundles of corrugated iron sheets, Tk2.45 crore for cattle feed, and Tk2.45 crore for baby food in 19 affected districts.

On June 30, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the affected area in Kalapara, Patuakhali, where she distributed relief materials to those impacted by the cyclone.
