A total of 50 pirates of 12 gangs today surrendered here along with firearms to the law enforcement agencies.
Home Ministry and RAB-7 arranged a function for the surrender of the pirates at Elite Hall of Rab-7 in the city’s Patenga here this morning. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present at the function as chief guest.
The surrendered pirates promised to return to normal life after leaving their criminal activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahbuul Alam, Commander of Rab-7, said among the 50 pirates, one is female and three of them were listed by the Home Ministry.
A total of 35 guns, 18 single barrel light guns (SBLGs, 17 one-shutter guns, one gun, one pistol, one revolver, three foreign-made pistols, one SMG and two air guns were deposited by the Pirates before the Home Minister.
So far, a total of 342 notorious pirates of Banshkhali, Chakoria, Pekua, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been arrested and around 2603 arms and 29,123 ammunition were recovered from their possessions, according to Rab-7 till today.
Addressing the function, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal expressed his hope that the surrendered pirates will lead normal life in future.
