On 21 April 1526, Babur, a Central Asian warlord and descendant of Timur and Genghis Khan, defeated Sultan Ibrahim Lodi in the First Battle of Panipat, laying the foundation of the Mughal Empire in India.
Fought near Delhi, the battle saw Babur’s smaller, disciplined force triumph over Lodi’s vast army through superior tactics, including the strategic use of field artillery.
The victory ended the Delhi Sultanate and initiated a powerful new dynasty that would shape the Indian subcontinent for centuries.
