A university student was stabbed to death in Dhaka’s Banani on 19/04/2025 following a clash reportedly rooted in rivalry between two private university groups.

The victim, Zahidul Parvez, aged 23, was a student of Textile Engineering at Primeasia University. He hailed from Kaichan village in Bhaluka’s Birunia Union, Mymensingh.

The incident occurred in front of Star Tower in Banani on Saturday (19 April) night, where Zahidul was attacked.

Banani Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Mawdud said the killing and said initial inquiries suggest the altercation involving students from Primeasia University and the University of Scholars.

According to Officer-in-Charge Md Russel Sarwar, Zahidul had been eating a snack in front of his academic building when two female students from the University of Scholars arrived with students from Primeasia's English department.

A quarrel ensued allegedly over laughter and teasing involving the girls, escalating into a violent confrontation.

“Students from Primeasia’s English department began questioning Zahidul, and at one point, he was attacked with a sharp weapon,” said the OC. “There are visible stab wounds on his chest.”

Zahidul’s body has been taken to Kurmitola General Hospital. His family has been informed. No case had been filed at the time of reporting, but police say investigations are ongoing.
