Germany will provide Euro 52.5 million (approx. BDT. 724 crore) to Bangladesh for its endeavor on climate change adaption.
Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky and German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster today signed an agreement on behalf of the two governments in this regards, a German embassy press release said here.
Under this agreement, the fund will be disbursed for the project Climate Change Adapted Urban Development Programme VIII.
This is the first funding after the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) of Bangladesh – German Climate and Development Partnership (CDP), signed by the two governments in December 2024.
The project under this fund will support local government institutions to strengthen the adaptive capacity and reduce exposure of vulnerable population to climate change effects by improving the living conditions.
The funding will also help for climate-sensitive planning and implementation of infrastructure projects for climate adaptation.
The fund can also be used for replenishments and future follow-up projects of German Cooperation, said the press release.
