The Australian government has announced the establishment of a new Home Affairs Office in Dhaka, strengthening bilateral ties with Bangladesh and promoting safe and regular migration.
The office will serve as a hub for visa information services, assisting prospective Bangladeshi migrants with lawful migration pathways to Australia. Additionally, it will enhance cooperation between the two countries on immigration and border security matters.
Located in Bangladesh’s capital, the office will also facilitate engagement between the Australian and Bangladeshi governments to combat irregular migration and people smuggling.
Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke MP, acknowledged the role of Bangladesh’s Interim Government in supporting efforts to ensure safe migration. He expressed his satisfaction in making the initiative a reality, following discussions during his recent visit to Bangladesh.
Australia views Bangladesh as a key partner in the Indian Ocean region and remains committed to working together for regional stability and prosperity.
