The number of bank accounts holding Tk 1.0 crore or more has increased by 4,954 in the past three months, signaling a renewed confidence in the banking sector, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.

Experts in the banking industry suggest that money previously kept outside the banking system is now returning, leading to a rise in overall deposits and a growing number of high-value accounts.

As per Bangladesh Bank’s latest financial report, the total number of bank accounts with deposits exceeding Tk 1.0 crore now stands at 1,22,081, compared to 1,17,127 in the previous quarter (September 2024).

The total number of bank accounts in the country reached 16.32 crore by the end of December 2024, with a total deposit balance of Tk 18,83,711 crore. This marks an increase of 12,19,277 new accounts over three months. During the same period, total deposits grew by Tk 45,628 crore.

At the end of September 2024, there were 16.20 crore accounts in the banking sector, with deposits amounting to Tk 18,25,033 crore. In contrast, in the June quarter of 2024, there were 1,18,784 accounts with Tk 1.0 crore or more in deposits.

This steady rise in large-value accounts reflects a shift in depositor sentiment, as confidence in the banking system continues to strengthen.
