A fire broke out in a moving Green Line Paribahan bus on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Uzirpur. The bus had 20 passengers on board at the time, but no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred at 10:45 AM on Thursday (6 March) near the South Bamrail Bus Stand on the highway.
Gournadi Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Bipul Hossain confirmed the incident. He stated that the Green Line bus had left Dhaka for Barishal in the morning with 23 passengers.
Along the way, three passengers got off. When the bus reached South Bamrail on the Dhaka-Barishal highway, flames were spotted.
At that time, the driver, assistant, supervisor, and 20 passengers were on board. Fortunately, they evacuated before the fire spread.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but no injuries were reported.
"Upon receiving the news, two fire service units worked for about an hour and brought the fire under control at 11:40 AM. However, the bus’s engine, rear wheels, and all seats were completely burned," said Bipul Hossain.
Gournadi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aminur Rahman stated that the fire started due to a mechanical failure in the AC bus traveling from Dhaka to Barishal.
Meanwhile, no official statement has been received from Green Line’s Barishal branch authorities regarding the incident.
