According to an official update issued on Thursday, a committee formed by the Ministry of Law to review and recommend the withdrawal of politically motivated and harassing cases has so far suggested lifting 4,615 cases.
Chaired by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, the committee has conducted six meetings to assess the cases and determine their merit for withdrawal.
The statement from the ministry noted that during its 15-year tenure, the previous Awami League government had filed numerous cases against individuals, many of which were deemed politically driven or intended to harass opponents.
Following the political transition on 5 August last year, the interim government committed to ensuring justice by withdrawing such cases as part of its pledge to uphold the rule of law and address politically motivated legal actions.
The review process remains ongoing, and further recommendations are expected from the committee in the coming days.
