The government today asked all the keep the minimum temperature level of air conditioning machines at public and private offices and households at 25°C as part of its power saving campaign during the upcoming summer season.
According to a Cabinet Division circular, the electricity demand would largely increase this year as the summer would coincide with the month of Ramadan and irrigation season.
“The (increased) demand could be controlled through using AC thermostat at fixed temperature,” the circular read.
It said the notification was issued in line with a Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Ministry advisory ahead of the upcoming summer.
“Under the circumstance, all public, autonomous, statutory and private institutions are requested to implement appropriately the decision to keep the temperature level of their air condition machines at 25°C or above,” the circular read.
The notification simultaneously asked the ministries of commerce and social welfare and the NGO Affairs Bureau to convey the decision to the private sector through different business and trade bodies and the voluntary organizations.
