In an address to newly commissioned police officers, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has emphasised that Bangladesh as a state belongs to all its citizens, not to any particular party, group, or community.
Speaking at the passing-out parade of assistant superintendents at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda on Sunday (23 February) morning, he underscored the independent nature of the police force as servants of the republic, bound solely by the rule of law.
The ceremony marked the completion of training for 60 officers, comprising three from the 38th BCS (Police) batch and 57 from the 40th BCS (Police) batch.
The parade showcased the culmination of their rigorous year-long basic training programme.
"As employees of the republic, the Bangladesh Police shall work tirelessly to establish the rule of law and ensure comprehensive security for all citizens," the adviser said.
He cautioned the newly commissioned officers against becoming pawns of any political entity or implementing partisan agendas through unprofessional conduct.
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam and Academy Principal (Additional IGP) Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan were present on the dais during the ceremony, which included the distribution of awards to officers who demonstrated exceptional performance during their training.
The home affairs adviser specifically directed the fresh officers to ensure citizens visiting police stations do not face harassment.
He also advised them to uphold the spirit of equality that emerged through the student-public movements of July and August, calling for enhanced prestige of the police force.
The ceremony concluded with attendance from senior administration officials, marking a significant milestone in the professional lives of these newly commissioned officers who will now serve in various field positions across the country.
