Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain met with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday (16 February), on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat, Oman.
The two dignitaries engaged in discussions concerning mutual concerns and key bilateral interests.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this marks the second meeting between Hossain and Jaishankar following Bangladesh’s political transition on 5 August.
Their talks acknowledged the challenges facing the two neighbouring nations and underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts to address them.
Touhid Hossain emphasised the importance of renewing the Ganga Water Treaty and called for the resumption of the SAARC Standing Committee meeting, urging India to consider this matter seriously.
The discussion also touched upon the upcoming high-level border conference between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF), set to commence on Monday.
A 14-member Bangladeshi delegation, led by the BGB Director General, will participate in the four-day conference, the first of its kind since the change of power in Bangladesh following the July mass uprising.
Both sides expressed optimism that the conference would pave the way for addressing border-related issues.
Jaishankar, in a post on social media platform X, stated that the discussion prioritised bilateral matters, including regional cooperation under BIMSTEC.
