CA speaks at consensus commission's inaugural meeting with political parties

The interim government has formed a seven-member National Consensus Commission to engage political parties in deliberations over recommendations from six specialised commissions

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus spoke at a meeting of National Consensus Building Commission with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday (15 February).

The first meeting of the commission with political parties began at 3 pm. Professor Muhammad Yunus presided over the session aimed at fostering dialogue on key political, constitutional, and electoral reforms.  

Leaders from various political parties attended the meeting, including representatives from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), Nagorik Oikya, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish, Gono Sanghati Andolon, Gonoadhikar Parishad, and Jatiya Nagorik Committee.  

A seven-member delegation from the BNP, led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, participated in the discussions. Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by a five-member delegation headed by its Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar.

In addition to Professor Yunus, the commission includes several notable figures. 

The other members of the commission are Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, head of Police Reform Commission; Badiul Alam Majumder, head of Election Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, head of Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, head of Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.

The National Consensus Commission will complete its consensus building tasks within its six-month tenure.

The Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) is providing secretarial service to the commission.
