The Election Commission is actively preparing for the national parliamentary elections slated for December this year, according to Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.

He assured that limited-scale local elections will not have any bearing on the national polls.

Ambassadors from 18 development partner countries, accompanied by representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission headquarters on Tuesday (11 February).

Following the meeting, Commissioner Sanaullah addressed a press conference where he provided updates on the Commission's preparations and reaffirmed that the integrity of the national elections would remain unaffected by concurrent local polls.

UNDP Resident Representative here Stefan Liller said they support the Election Commission (EC) in holding a free and fair election in Bangladesh.

"We are supporting the Election Commission to conduct a free, fair election hopefully the best election in Bangladesh's history," he said in a media briefing.

About timeline of the next polls, he said, it's a matter of interim government.
