US President Donald Trump has stated that Palestinians will not be granted the right to return to the Gaza Strip. He made this declaration during an interview with Fox News on Monday (10 February).
Trump, who has recently commenced his second term as president, has been vocal about his plans to bring Gaza under US control, a proposal that has been outrightly rejected by Arab nations.
Speaking to Fox News, he asserted his intention to claim ownership of the territory, adding that six separate locations outside Gaza would be designated for Palestinian resettlement.
When questioned about whether Palestinians would be allowed to return to Gaza, Trump replied, “No, they will not. Because they are going to have better places to live. I am talking about establishing a permanent place for them. If they were to return now, it would take years. Gaza is uninhabitable.”
Trump first unveiled his Gaza proposal last Tuesday during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He suggested relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan—both countries have since rejected this plan.
