The leadership of Nirapon, an organisation dedicated to enhancing workplace safety in Bangladesh’s industrial sector, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday (4 February) at the State Guest House Jamuna.
The delegation was led by Simone Sultana, chair of Nirapon, and Tapan Chowdhury, an independent director of the group, with representatives from leading Western brands and retailers also in attendance, said a press release from the CA's Press Wing.
During the meeting, the chief adviser reaffirmed the interim government’s commitment to implementing significant labour reforms to align the country’s labour laws with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards.
"We have already taken concrete steps, and you will soon witness tangible changes," he assured the delegation.
CA's Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi highlighted the government’s recent progress, stating that an 18-point agreement had been signed with labour unions and manufacturers.
He noted that this initiative had stabilised the garment sector while bolstering export growth.
Expressing appreciation for the government's efforts, Simone Sultana commended the chief adviser’s commitment to reforming the industry.
She emphasised that Nirapon, in collaboration with local partners BRAC and Amader Kotha, plays a pivotal role in equipping factories with innovative tools for managing workplace safety.
Representatives of major brands also conveyed their satisfaction with the improving safety standards across factories.
Among those present at the meeting were Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG Affairs, and Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
