At least five people lost their lives, and 23 others sustained injuries in three separate road accidents across Rangpur this morning, according to police reports.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the deceased.

Three Killed in Head-On Collision

The most fatal of the incidents occurred at the Satmatha China Hall area, where three individuals died following a head-on collision between a Kurigram-bound night coach and a three-wheeler.

According to police and fire service officials, the accident took place around 8:30am when a night coach travelling from Dhaka to Kurigram collided with a Rangpur-bound three-wheeler.

The impact killed three passengers of the three-wheeler instantly. Their bodies were later sent to the morgue at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Four others sustained injuries in the crash and were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for treatment.

Masud Alam, assistant director of Rangpur Fire Service, attributed the accident primarily to dense fog.

He stated that the night coach fled the scene after hitting the three-wheeler.

Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel arrived at the location promptly, recovered the bodies, and transported them to the hospital.

Traffic in the area has since returned to normal, he added.

Bus Collision in Pirganj Leaves One Dead, 19 Injured

Meanwhile, another fatal crash took place in Pirganj, where a collision between two buses resulted in one death and left 19 passengers injured.

The accident occurred around 7:30am in front of the Barodargah Highway Police Outpost on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway.

Witnesses reported that a Kurigram-bound bus had stopped to drop off passengers near the outpost when a Rangpur-bound bus from Dhaka rammed into the back of it.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, injuring approximately 20 passengers.

Six to seven critically injured individuals were transported to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, where one succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Several others were admitted to the Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, while some received primary treatment and were discharged.

Mohammad Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the Highway Police Outpost, stated that local residents, police, and fire service personnel conducted the rescue operation.

Police have seized both buses involved in the accident.
