Germany has assured Bangladesh of the country's unwavering support in facilitating its democratic progression.
This pledge was made during a meeting between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Meeting between the two leaders took place on Tuesday (21 January) coinciding with the forum's sessions.
The discussions encompassed a range of issues, including the reasons behind the July uprising, Bangladesh's diplomatic ties with neighbouring nations, the Rohingya crisis, and the security situation in Myanmar.
Professor Yunus highlighted his ongoing efforts to forge consensus among political parties on the reform reports submitted by six commissions.
He expressed optimism that once consensus is reached, political parties would sign the July Charter, thus upholding the democratic ethos of the student-led uprisings in July and August.
The chief adviser also urged Chancellor Scholz to enhance business relations between Bangladesh and Germany.
He invited a German trade delegation to visit Dhaka to explore Bangladesh's business potential.
Additionally, Professor Yunus sought the Chancellor's support in establishing a safe zone for Rohingyas in Myanmar's Rakhine State under UN supervision.
In response, Chancellor Scholz reiterated Germany's full commitment to aiding Bangladesh in these endeavours.
