Ismail Hossain Rasel, a staff reporter for the online news outlet Jago News, was attacked on 6 May last year at the Abid Anwesha Lighting Factory near Donia College in Jatrabari, Dhaka.

Rasel promptly filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station that night, leading to the arrest of two accused individuals.

However, the accused have since been threatening Rasel and his pregnant wife, demanding that he withdraw the case currently pending in court.

The threats, delivered both over the phone and in person, include warnings of harm and death if Rasel does not comply.

On 25 December, Rasel filed a fresh complaint with Jatrabari Police Station regarding these threats.

He expressed his growing fear for his life, saying,  "I, my wife, and my family are all living in constant fear due to the threats from the accused. Given their local influence, we feel incredibly insecure."

Police have assured that they are taking the matter seriously and investigating the threats thoroughly.

They have promised strict action against the perpetrators.

The incident has drawn condemnation from journalist leaders, who view it as a direct attack on independent journalism.

They have called for urgent and decisive action to ensure the safety of Rasel and his family and to address the harassment of a professional journalist.
