Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s nuclear security forces, has been killed in a bomb explosion in Moscow.
The blast, which also claimed the life of his aide, occurred on Tuesday (17 December), according to Russian officials cited in a Reuters report.
Russian Investigative Committee stated that the explosion was caused by a bomb concealed within an electric scooter.
The device detonated outside an apartment complex on Ryazansky Prospect on Tuesday morning, fatally injuring Kirillov.
Images circulating on social media depict a scene of devastation, with the entrance of the building reduced to rubble.
The bloodstained snow reveals two lifeless bodies lying amidst the debris. Police have cordoned off the area as investigations continue.
