Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has submitted a set of proposals for constitutional amendments, encompassing 62 key areas, including the introduction of roles for a deputy prime minister and a vice president.

The proposed amendments also seek to enforce a two-term limit for prime ministers, establish a second chamber in the parliament, and introduce a provision for referendums.

These details were disclosed by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed during a media briefing at the parliament on Tuesday (26 November).

Earlier in the day, a BNP delegation visited the Parliament building to meet Dr Ali Riaz, head of the reform commission, where they formally submitted their constitutional reform proposals.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Salahuddin emphasised that the reforms aim to ensure a "balance of power" within the governmental framework.
