In a significant protest action, sacked employees of several banks, including the Islami Bank, controlled by the S Alam Group, have blocked the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway.

This protest has resulted in a complete halt to traffic along the route, leaving commuters stranded.

The protest began early on Sunday morning in the Akhtaruzzaman Moijjartek area of the Karnaphuli Upazila, with demonstrators occupying the highway from approximately 8:30am on Sunday (24 November).

The employees, who had been recently dismissed from their positions at three banks, took to the road to express their grievances.

As a result, vehicles heading to Cox’s Bazar from Chattogram are unable to proceed, while those departing from Cox’s Bazar are also stranded and unable to enter the Chattogram city.

The disruption has further impacted local routes, with internal traffic between various towns facing severe delays.

According to Monir Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Karnaphuli Police Station, efforts are underway to clear the protesters from the road.

Over 3,000 employees from various banks controlled by S Alam group, have been dismissed recently, sparking the current wave of unrest.
