In a bid to enhance Bangladesh's diplomatic outreach and strengthen bilateral ties in Africa, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin held a virtual meeting with Bangladeshi Ambassadors and High Commissioners stationed across the African continent on Thursday.
The Foreign Secretary highlighted Africa’s growing importance in Bangladesh’s foreign policy framework, emphasizing its potential as a key partner in emerging markets and a source of vast natural resources. He urged the envoys to explore opportunities to promote economic, trade, and investment collaborations with African nations.
A major focus of the discussions was agricultural cooperation, particularly in contract farming. Ambassador Jashim Uddin underscored the potential for mutually beneficial initiatives in agriculture, urging the envoys to prioritize exploring partnerships in this area.
He also called on the heads of missions to identify new avenues of cooperation with their host countries and provide top-notch consular services to the Bangladeshi expatriate community.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the envoys to share updates on their ongoing initiatives, challenges, and insights into the priorities of their host countries in fostering collaboration with Bangladesh.
The session was attended by senior officials, including Additional Foreign Secretary and Inspector General of Missions Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Director General (Africa) B M Jamal Hossain, and Director General (Administration) Mohammad Nazmul Haque. Heads of Bangladesh Missions in Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa also participated in the virtual meeting.
This strategic engagement underscores Bangladesh’s intent to deepen its ties with African nations, leveraging shared interests to expand bilateral cooperation and foster economic growth.
