Newly appointed Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin stated that consumers’ expenses have increased significantly due to inflation, while their purchasing power has not kept pace.
“Controlling commodity prices cannot be done by some magical incantation. We need to work collectively with all parties involved,” he remarked, expressing his intention to ease the cost of living for the nation’s citizens.
He made these comments to journalists on Monday (11 November), upon assuming responsibilities at the Ministry of Commerce.
The adviser added, “From the outset, I have stood with the spirit of student and public movements. I do not represent any political party, personal company, or any relatives at present. My focus is to work with everyone’s cooperation.”
On Sunday (10 November), Sheikh Bashir Uddin, a businessperson, was appointed as the new interim adviser for the Ministry of Commerce.
He will also serve as the adviser for the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.
Previously, Salehuddin Ahmed had been responsible for both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce.
Moving forward, Salehuddin Ahmed will oversee only the Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, who had been the adviser for the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, will now take on the Ministry of Labour and Employment, as well as his prior role in the Ministry of Shipping.
