Shortage in manpower is disrupting the healthcare system at the upazila levels, Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said.
“If we can eliminate the manpower crisis, then people will not rush to the capital for treatment. We are working to solve these problems,” he said while speaking to reporters after visiting Sylhet's Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex and Biswanath Upazila Health Complex on Wednesday (6 March).
The minister added, “If we can deliver the medical services to the marginalised people, then the medical colleges will not be overcrowded. Medical colleges in the country not only provide services but also teach and do research. So upazila health complexes should be given importance.”
Remarking the condition of Sylhet's Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex is not very good, the minister said, “There is a shortage of manpower. The building needs renovation. However, the condition of Biswanath Upazila Health Complex is good as expected.”
Work has started to establish burning units in 5 divisions of the country, the health minister said.
“We are trying to finish this work as soon as possible. These include Sylhet, Rajshahi, Faridpur, Rangpur and Barisal,” he added.
